CATARACT ACCREDITATION REFERRAL SCHEME (CARS)

In order to refer under this scheme:

  • You must be an accredited optometrist (see accreditation instructions on the right)
  • The patient must be registered with a GP in the MKCCG area (Download the list on the right, or from the MKCCG website link below)
  • You must be working in a practice which has a CARS contract with MKCCG

From 3rd December 2018 this scheme will be mandatory, and cataract referrals sent by any other means will be returned to the referring practice. Updated instructions on how to join the scheme are available to download from this page.

If your practice would like to contract to the scheme, please contact mkccg.optics@nhs.net

The LOC has produced a set of frequently asked questions on CARS, and this is available to download from this page. A list of those practices currently contracted to provide CARS is available from: http://www.miltonkeynesccg.nhs.uk/optics/

All paperwork regarding the scheme is available for download on the NHS MKCCG website:

http://www.miltonkeynesccg.nhs.uk/optics/

Cataract referrals in MK should never be sent directly to the hospital/clinic, even when the patient has indicated a choice.

BOOKED URGENT SERVICE

Please click on the links to the right to download the referral form for the Booked Urgent Service (BUS) clinic. Please note that the BUS is not a walk-in clinic. All patients must be referred, using the form. They will then be contacted by the clinic.
