In Sefton we have set up a direct referral scheme for cataract patients.

The Idea is that any patient whose GP is within the Sefton area who requires cataract assessment is referred to one of several accredited local Optometrists.

GP's and Optometrists who do not wish to become involved in the scheme (undergo accreditation) are supposed to refer their patients to an accredited   Optometrist

The scheme is currently in the process of being updated, with a view to amalgamation with some other local schemes
